The Amtrak train from News York to Washington is a really great time to catch up on email (although I need to remember to get on the quiet car next time), but I really don’t understand why we can’t have WiFi on the train. I believe there’s a (draft?) WiMax standard for mobile high-speed wireless but even without that there should be a reasonable technology solution. If you can get internet on some airplanes, I can’t imagine that you can’t make it happen for trains as well.
There’s gotta be a business model there, too - I’d pay easily $10-20 for internet on the three hour express train ride from NY to DC if I had WiFi.
