Elaine turned me onto Pandora recently and I just had the first “ha! cool!” moment… Pandora uses the data and algorithms from the Music Genome Project to analyze your likes etc and then creates custom (and free) playlists for you. It’s a cool concept in its own right - the math dork in me really gets off on this - but the execution is pretty awesome as well.

I created a station with the following artists as “seeds”:

  • Bob Dylan
  • Death Cab for Cutie
  • Journey
  • Neil Diamond
  • Pulp
  • Sia
  • Tom Waits
  • U2

The first song it played: New Order’s “Age of Consent”. Very very cool. I love it.
